The ski resorts in Northern Argentina such as Las Lenas and Penitentes are at a much higher elevation then the ski resorts in Southern Argentina which generally means higher amounts of snowfall and colder and lighter snow. However this is generally, and often the Southern ski resorts can get more snow like in 2010 and 2011 so it depends on the snow year. It is important to note though that Penitentes has extremely variable snow and sometimes it does not have enough snow to be open. The closest major city and embarking point for Penitentes and Las Lenas is Mendoza, with a great downtown and vineyards close by in Chacras de Coiria and Maipo areas. San Rafael is a much smaller version of Mendoza and has an airport for flights from Buenos Aires and is where non direct buses from Buenos Aires and Bariloche connect to get to Las Lenas. Buenos Aires is a legendary city filled with great bars, restaurants, tango, theater and is the main hub for people arriving internationally to want to fly to any of the Argentina ski resorts or for people who want to see the city but take the overnight buses. |
