El Calafate is most well know for it's national park “Los Glaciares” that covers a zone with unique and very various landscape, and climatic changes in the world.
From the high mountain to the patagonian steppe, all around it changes constantly: the high summits of the always snow-covered, southern Andean cord, they become hills covered with southern typical forest to the extent that the heights descend; two of the largest lakes of the continent and among both, to its left, the field of south continental ice is found, one of Inside a continent, ruling out the antarctica. Then, the steppe that continues to the mountain range offers a special habitat for great variety of mammals and birds, and the variety of flora among this so desolate landscape is difficult to imagine.
The main attraction are its glaciers, each one with their particularities. Also they exist in this almost uninhabited zone, many samples of remainders prehistoric, from cave paintings to remainders vegetable, human, and animal fossils that is worth while to discover.
Finally, the National Park The Glaciers is an unique place in the world, motive by which, in the year 1981, the UNESCO declares it "world heritage". |
