The safest option is to get a ground transfer there or book a package that includes daily ground transfers from accommodation in Los Andes to Ski Arpa. To get to Ski Arpa from the town of Los Andes, drive to San Esteban and then to Lo Calvo. Just before Lo Calvo turn right to El Cobre and you will finally arrive at Campos de Ahumada. Continue until you see the snowcat. Look out for the goats at Campos de Ahumada. The road is often closed for 24-48 hours after a big snowfall. Ski Arpa does not give refunds if the road is closed, only offers credit for future dates. Pictured to the right is the Ski Arpa parking lot.
Los Andes, where everyone stays while skiing at Ski Arpa, is 73 KM north of the city of Santiago and about an hour and 10 minutes drive. Ski Arpa is then 35 KM from the town of Los Andes. The last 13 KM are not yet paved and of those, 5 KM are extremely rugged driving. Do NOT try to get up here with a normal rental car, we recommend four wheel drive to ensure not getting stuck and a truck or jeep. |
